Welcome to the Lafayette, Indiana Police Department Beat the Heat Web site!

The Beat the Heat program is a nation-wide program that has recently been introduced to the Lafayette, Indiana area. The mission of the Beat the Heat program is to help educate the young people of our community about the real problems of illegal drug and alcohol use, to educate everyone to the horrors of alcohol or drug-impared driving, to promote understanding between the police and the communities they serve, and to educate the general public about drag racing and to encourage everyone to not race in the street.

The LPD Beat the Heat program does not use any LPD or other government funds. We run our program through donations from private individuals, organizations, and from foundations. We also are thankful for in-kind donations from corporations and individuals.

We are in the process of building a new Beat the Heat drag car We learned a few months ago that the frame of the Beat the Heat drag car (pictured on the left) is severely damaged by rust.

We found a new car to replace the damaged car and picked it up on Labor Day weekend, 2007.

Stay tuned for updates on a new schedule for the Beat the Heat car.
